The Institute was created out of a need by Bioptron agents for more detailed information on how their therapy worked. Registered in August 2003 it now has close to 100 members.

Its primary functions are: EDUCATION  MEMBERSHIP  RESEARCH

In 2004 the Institute launched its first education seminar in Auckland, later repeated in Pukekohe, Cambridge and Christchurch. The 3 days covered Light Therapy basics, Colour Therapy (using Bioptron) and a full Practical day.

In 2007 this was followed by a 2 day Advanced Course on Anatomy and the connectivity of body systems and how & where Light Therapy causes changes.

The Institute has created a Code of Ethics for its members and has the following
MISSION STATEMENT
To promote Light & Colour Therapy (phototherapy)as an accepted alternative healing system
To work ethically and with integrity to assist natural healing by observing the Code of Ethics and the Laws of the New Zealand Light & Colour Therapy Institute.
To advocate only those treatments using Phototherapy that have been prescribed and proven to be effective.
To become educated about the anatomy, its structure and operating systems and learn how these can break down and create ailments.
To work as a team to the benefit of all and the advancement of each individual to the best of their capabilities.
To build phototherapy into a nationally recognised and accepted form of healing so that it will become a leading component in medical areas.
To promote a profitable basis on which the Institute can expand and increase its
integrity and operational structure.

To become recognised individually and collectively as a professional group of practitioners
in the field of natural healing.
Anyone may join the Institute by completing an Application Form.
The fee is $45 to join and an annual subscription of $45.
